#IMadeMyMark: Please register to vote, collect IDs

Residents who are not registered but eligible to vote in the upcoming national elections should please register.

THE City of Ekurhuleni urges all residents who are not registered but eligible to vote in the upcoming national elections to register.

Also, those who have not collected their new IDs, must please do so.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the date of the election as May 8, but registration is not yet closed. Those who have last registered in a different province from which they would wish to vote will not able to vote in the provincial elections unless they register to vote in their new province.

Residents can register to vote at the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) offices situated in the following municipal offices: Kempton Park, Tembisa 1, Alberton, Springs, Brakpan, Benoni and Germiston.

Residents can call the IEC on 0800 60 11 90 or SMS their ID numbers to 32810 (R1) to get their registration status and their current voting station or visit the IEC website at www.elections.org.za to check their current registration details and voting station location.

In addition, approximately 19 000 ID cards and barcoded ID copies remain uncollected in the Ekurhuleni home affairs offices. Residents of Ekurhuleni who have not collected their IDs are urged to visit home affairs to collect it.
