Court case against woman postponed

This after they were charged with reckless and negligent driving, resisting arrest, failing to furnish information and interfering with officers while on duty.

THE court case of the mother (49) and daughter (28) who were arrested on January 14 for reckless and negligent driving, resisting arrest, failing to furnish information and interfering with officers while on duty, continued on February 22.

All charges against the mother were withdrawn, but the case for the daughter was postponed to March 8 for the outcome of representations that was handed in by her lawyer.

Both of them first appeared on January 15 in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

The 28-year-old woman was arrested for speeding on Swartkoppies Road in Alberton. She was caught clocking 107 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in her white BMW 1 series.

In an EMPD statement, it was said the woman got out of her vehicle and demanded to see the camera reading before she returned to the car and locked herself in.

Her mother then arrived on the scene and started causing trouble. She was arrested along with her daughter, allegedly because she interfered with her daughter’s arrest.

“Back-up was called and Brackendowns SAPS members responded. When SAPS arrived, the driver was requested to step out of the vehicle before she was arrested along with her mother,” said EMPD acting spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

Both were detained at Brackendowns Police Station.
