Two men killed, woman raped in Vosloorus armed robbery

Two unknown armed men wearing balaclavas approached the couple and tried to rob them. The man tried to protect his girlfriend.

According to one of the community members who wanted to remain anonymous, a man, aged around 27, and his girlfriend, who is about the same age, left a local shebeen at around 2am, February 4.

“Two unknown armed men wearing balaclavas approached the couple and tried to rob them. The man tried to protect his girlfriend. Unfortunately, one of the suspects stabbed him in the neck and he bled heavily. While the boyfriend laid on the ground unconscious, where he later died because of the stab wound, the two armed men threatened his girlfriend and took her to a house in Ext Seven, where the woman claimed she was raped by the two men,” said the source.

The source further told Kathorus MAIL the communities became angry because of the man’s death and conducted a man hunt for the suspects.

“Communities searched everywhere for the suspects until they found the two men, who matched the description given by the woman, in Zonkizizwe the following morning. One man escaped while the other one was caught by the community members. The community members undressed him, dragged him to Ext 28 and stoned him to death next to the body of the victim,” the source said.

Communications official at Vosloorus Police Station Capt Piet Rossouw confirmed that two murder cases and a rape case have been opened at the Vosloorus Police Station and it is being investigated.

However, Rossouw condemned the way the community took the law into their own hands.

“The law has a role to play. Mob justice is a crime on its own,” said Rossouw.
