91 on New Year’s Eve

Sue Kukard celebrated her 91st birthday on New Year's Eve.

ALBERTON resident Sue Kukard ended 2018 on a high note celebrating her 91st birthday on New Year’s Eve.

Sue, who has been an Alberton resident for 26 years, celebrated her birthday with friends coming over to have tea with her.

She was born in New Castle, KwaZulu-in Natal in 1927. She and her husband, Alistair Arthur Kukard, immigrated to Zimbabwe where he established his own company.

Sue worked at home, raising her two children. In 1982 the pair moved back to South Africa, living in Pietermaritzburg. In 1992 they made the move to Alberton, where she still resides.

Sue and her family were avid tennis players, belonging to tennis clubs in her younger day. According to her son, Denton Kukard, the family would play tennis socially together.

When Sue moved to Alberton she joined the Alberton Bowling Club where she is still a member today.

“My mother is a very happy person,” said Denton. “ She has always liked working around the house and is an avid gardener.”

Sue’s family has grown with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with some of them living in South Africa and some in Australia.

Her family wishes her a very happy birthday and many more happy returns.
