DRUMBLADE is an idyllic little retreat of only 140 plots nestled around the foot of the Perdeberg Mountain.

It is only a 15 minute drive from Alberton. This is the perfect setting for one of Midvaal’s newest parkrun which was launched on September 1.

“Since then we have had over 800 people come to run the route, followed by consistently positive feedback ranging from the stunning views to the awesome vibe and the cheerful volunteers,” said Cheryl Jansen van Vuuren, the event director.

The Drumblade route is circular, and most of the 5km is run on beautiful farmland that enjoys exquisitely picturesque views of mountains and valleys.

This route is suitable for all levels of fitness – from fun walkers to serious runners. There is a good balance between down hills and up hills, with the biggest challenge being just before the 4km mark.

While this hill, which has become well known as “Mount N-everest”, will test your limits, it will also provide a rewarding and wonderful sense of achievement each time you conquer it.

“Visitors and tourists return time and time again to better their time on this newly created strava segment, and the selfie photo booth at the summit allows you a well-earned pit stop to catch your breath.

“Despite the hill, many park runners have still managed to achieve a PB (personal best) on our course thanks to the momentum one can gain on the rest of the course.

“It is important to note that the farm we run on is home to beautiful horses and other animals, and to mitigate any possible risks in this regard, unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event,” she said.

The parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8am, and it’s free. Register online at https://www.parkrun.co.za/register/ and then join us every week or as often as you can.

“Be rewarded with out-of-town fresh air, loads of parking, and a parkrun experience to be remembered. You can find us on google maps https://goo.gl/maps/zyh8UXNhp8E2 (Address: 97/1 Marie Rd) or check the website for directions and alternative routes (https://www.parkrun.co.za/drumblade/course/),” she concluded.
