Taxi accident on R59 leaves one dead and 13 injured

The accident occurred before 6am on November 5.

ONE person was killed and 13 others injured on November 5 when a taxi rolled on the R59 near the Reading Interchange in Alberton.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 6am to find the taxi lying on its roof on the side of the road. Several people were found scattered around the vehicle after they were ejected from the vehicle.

On closer inspection, paramedics found a patient trapped under the taxi. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.

Thirteen other people were assessed. Five were found in a critical condition while eight others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, one of the critically injured patients was airlifted to a nearby hospital by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter. The remaining patients were transported by ambulance.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
