Successful arrest after high-speed chase

Inside the vehicle, a firearm was found with both empty cartridges and live rounds.

IN the early hours of September 15 police officers from Alberton Police Station were patrolling the Alberton CBD area when they decided to stop a suspicious-looking silver car.

As the officers approached the vehicle the driver sped off. The officers set off in pursuit and called for backup to help bring the vehicle to a stop.

As the driver realised he was being followed he increased his speed. The vehicle took to the N3 highway, trying to evade the officers where the flying squad caught up to it near the London Road off-ramp.

A last attempt was made by the suspect to escape down Marlboro Drive but police managed to bring the vehicle to a stop. Inside the vehicle, a firearm was found with both empty cartridges and live rounds.

“The suspect has been taken in for questioning at Bramley SAPS,” said Captain Ramotshela, communications officer for Alberton SAPS. “A case of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and reckless driving will be investigated.”
