Electrical metres to be replaced with pre-paid metres

This is as per council decision taken in 2016 to embark with the aim to ensure cases around illegal connections are minimised.

RESIDENTS of Ward 38, which covers Brackenhurst (South of Swartkoppies Road) and Brackendowns, must take note that a subcontractor mandated by the energy department will start with replacement of electricity meters with prepaid meters.

This is as per council decision taken in 2016 to embark with the aim to ensure cases around illegal connections are minimised.

The subcontractor will start with the replacement of the meters in the next few weeks. Residents should also check their mailboxes as the company will be distributing pamphlets to inform the community of the work to be carried out.

When work resumes, residents are urged to grant the workers access to their properties in order to do the necessary work in the area. To verify the validity of the person asking for access to your property, they will have IDs on them to verify they are who they say they are.

Please also note power will be affected during the day when the subcontractor is busy with replacing the metres. However, power will be restored in the evenings, and only be off during the day.

“Apologies for any inconvenience caused in this regard while metres are being replaced,” said councillor Malcolm Maifala.
