Task force investigates scrap yards in Alberton

A joint task force investigated scrap yards in Alberton to see if they were legal.

A JOINT effort by crime fighters from SAPS, PRASA, Transnet, Eskom, Telkom and EMPD were in Alberton for dealing in second-hand goods.

The operation, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Chauke, focused on searching scrap yards for any stolen goods. During the operation, five non-compliant scrap yards were each issued with R500 fines.

A total amount of copper weighing 11.7kg was seized during the operation, with an estimated street value of R11 735. One suspect was detained by police following the investigation and will appear in court soon.
