With regards to the waste transfer station in Heidelberg Road – I really want something to be done about this situation.
I visited the station on August 11, and I was so taken aback at how the people there grabbed everything off of my vehicle that I brought to dump. I was barely entering the premises when they swooped down on my car and started pulling things off.
They even caused damage to my vehicle, which I must now pay for to get fixed. This is unacceptable.
It’s also probably the reason that people dump their stuff in the field and next to roads instead of going to these stations.
I wish someone would give attention to this problem.

Seabi Masilo, media assistant from Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) responded:
The EMM has noted that there are waste reclaimers that come from an informal settlement called Mandela a few kilometres from the Heidelberg Road Transfer Station who have committed the incident complained about.
These waste reclaimers sit outside the Heidelberg Road Transfer Station waiting for vehicles that come to the station for offloading of various solid waste material that they can reclaim.
The EMM has used the EMPD to forcefully remove the waste reclaimers whenever their activities pose a threat to members of the public and EMM employees at the transfer station.
The City is currently working on a long-term plan to eradicate the problem of waste reclaimers.
Members of the public are also requested not to stop outside the transfer station or to allow the waste reclaimers to collect any material from their vehicles, to avoid any damage to their property.
