Poverty forces dog and owner to part ways

He simply can’t bear to see his dog suffering and wasting away in front of his eyes anymore.

DOG lovers can imagine the sadness of a situation where a dog owner must surrender his furry companion to an organisation who can care for it because he simply cannot afford to feed the dog or even himself anymore.

This specific situation formed on the night of Monday, August 20 at the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC) in Westonaria.

A very troubled man came to SARAC with his 10-year-old female ridgeback dog named Thai. She could only be described as emaciated and underfed. Radiating deep sadness, the man told SARAC staff that he can no longer afford to take care of Thai and that he hopes they can continue caring for her.

The man explained how he had recently lost everything – his wife, children and job. He said he can barely afford to feed himself anymore, nevermind Thai. With a broken heart, he said that he simply can’t bear to see his dog suffering and wasting away in front of his eyes anymore.

Staff members were touched by this story and gave the man some food. Without hesitation, he shared his food with Thai, before parting ways with her forever.

SAD STORY: Thai the ridgeback dog had to part ways with her owner of 10 years because he had lost everything and cannot afford to take care of her anymore.

Thai is now under the care of SARAC and the Oakdene Veterinary Clinic. As of Wednesday, August 22, Thai has gained three kilograms and weighed in at 24 kilograms.

If you or someone you know carry love and compassion in your heart for dogs in desperate need, and you’d like to adopt Thai, please call Oakdene Vet’s Jerry Selwane on 084 911 9459.
