NOVA Pioneer school hosted its first ever ‘Talk the Talk’ TedEvent which saw learners sharing innovative ideas on how to change the African continent.

The guest and dignitaries were welcomed at the school in Ormonde on July 26, with harmonious songs performed by the school choir while parents arrived in numbers to support the event.

Twelve learners were selected to share their ideas, one at a time, to the panel of judges and curious parents. The innovative ideas these learners shared were mostly set about bringing positive change to the African continent.

ATTENDANCE: Parents came in numbers to support learners on their inspirational and worth sharing ideas.

Atang Mooko, one of the first speakers, grabbed the audience’s attention with her presentation which was about her being mocked every time. People use to mock her on how she walks, and about the colour of her hair and her. TedTalk aimed at introducing a programme to educate people to respect others the way they are.

The winning ideas that were shared on stage by learners were phenomenal as all ideas were about how the society should work together in bringing change for the disadvantaged people and communities around the continent.

As the event kept on unfolding, the audience were being entertained by Zwotea Mhlongo, programme director, with his jokes.

Lesley Mpembe’s innovative idea on ‘Life is nothing but a poem’ was the best-voted presentation of the night after deliberation by judges. Lesley’s idea was about how the world evolved around poetry. From ancient times, countries were brought together through poetry, therefore in order for countries to work together again, poetry is the only tool that can do that.

“I feel honoured to be recognised. This means a lot to me and I hope that I have inspired some of the learners and parents. The presentation that was delivered by other speakers was also inspiring and life-changing,” Lesley said.

Jabulani Mtwa and Giorgia Son scooped second and third best presentation awards respectively, while Bongeka Yakobe’s presentation was voted one of the most amazing presentations.
