The trial of the two suspects accused of murdering Gert Hitzeroth is postponed till September 21

THE two suspects accused of murdering Gert Hitzeroth (54) on May 19 in Mayberry Park appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court again on July 31.

On May 19 Hitzeroth went out to a restaurant for drinks with three family members. He left the restaurant with one of the accused and the three men who accompanied him for drinks at the suspect’s house. This is where an altercation ensued that led to the accused retrieving a baseball bat and hitting Hitzeroth over the head several times.

The crime scene was cleaned up and the weapon was hidden by the time the police arrived at the house.

The male suspect, aged 39, was arrested on charges of murder. The female suspect, aged 37, was later arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice which changed to a charge of murder. The two suspects were released on bail of R15 000 and R5 000 respectively on May 28.

The suspects appealed for the terms of their bail to be changed and it was granted, requiring them to report to Brackendowns SAPS on Tuesdays and Fridays. The previous agreement was on Mondays and Fridays.

The case has been postponed to September 21 for the investigation to complete.
