THE man accused of shooting Melonique Klassen seven times on March 23 appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court again on July 31.
The case was again postponed until August 7 when the first official bail hearing will take place. The suspect remains in custody.
During the proceedings of the court hearing on July 31, the magistrate spoke out strongly against the prosecutor regarding the way he was handling the case. Information that was required from the investigating officer was still not available to the court despite two months passing since the last hearing.
The investigating officer was not available for the court day but will be in attendance on August 7.
The Klassen family, as well as concerned community members from Eden Park, came to the court to demand that justice is served and that the suspect is denied bail. According to community members, they will present the court with a signed petition to lend strength to the argument against denying the suspect bail.
PalmRidge Magistrates court: JUSTICE FOR MEL
“We are not satisfied with the way the court case is being handled,” said Errol Klassen, the father of the deceased. “I don’t want the case to fall through the system. We want to be able to put it behind us and get closure.”
