THE Verreaux’s Eagle that was born on June 3 on Meyer’s Farm, was finally ringed on Tuesday, July 24.
Storm, the eaglet, was 51 days old upon receiving his ring. Little Storm is very lucky as he is the only Verreaux’s eagle that his parents produced this year. Last year, they were unsuccessful in producing any eaglets. Storm is getting healthier and more beautiful by the day.
The ring-operation took place under the supervision of Bo van der Lecq, leader of the Eagle Protection and Meyer’s Farm Verreaux groups. Bo also works with the Witwatersrand Birding Club.
Craig Nattrass went through the effort of climbing the pole to the top of the eagles’ nest, while Gail Schaum, a registered ringer, provided the ring for Storm. It was a proud day for everyone who witnessed the event.
