Meyersdal Post office ‘off the grid’

There may be a problem with the payment structure regarding rent from post offices.

MEYERSDAL Post office is still without power – more than a month after it originally went ‘off the grid’ following a dispute over rent payments.

At the time of this happening, the spokesperson for the National Post Service, Johan Kruger, could not give an indication of when this problem will be sorted out and normal functionality will be restored. This leaves the post office unable to perform the functions necessary as they have no connection.

It was brought to the attention of the Alberton RECORD that people could not gain access to the post boxes on the corner of Kritzinger Road and Pieter Uys Avenue. Upon investigating the claims of the residents, it came to light that the post office was not delivering to these boxes, also due to a dispute of rent payments. This leaves the people that use these boxes for their post unable to receive anything.

Attempts were made by the RECORD to get comment from the post service whether this is, in fact, a problem and the reason why the payments are not being made. At the time of going to print, no contact could be made with Kruger and no comment was received.
