Love Week brings hope to the less fortunate

Approximately R10 000 worth of jackets were donated at each of these traffic lights.

YOU saw them at traffic lights during the past week, some even wearing their onesies, braving the early morning temperatures for a good cause. A group of 70 young people spent a week doing good deeds during Love Week for the community like collecting money to buy jackets for less fortunate children.

Love Week is an outreach programme under the supervision of the Dare2Care Foundation, the social justice arm of Bridge Church. Every morning, the team gathered at specific traffic lights to raise money for this foundation.

The team raised a total of R60 222.25, which will be used to buy jackets for underprivileged children this winter. Approximately R10 000 worth of jackets were donated at each of these traffic lights and 150 people, who were looking for jobs and asked for money, were fed during the week.

PACKING MEALS: The Love Week and Rise Against Hunger helpers packed meals to feed less fortunate children.

The team partnered with Rise Against Hunger and packed 7 000 meals. These meals will feed three children every day for a year. They also spent time with PUSH Drop-In Centre in Eldorado Park and learned about their culture, found out what they do for the children in their community and spent quality time with these children.

“Thank you to every person who gave towards this cause,” said Jenna Stols on behalf of Bridge Church.

“We are overwhelmed and so grateful for your donations. Thank you for partnering with us in making a difference in our community.”

GOOD YOUNG PEOPLE: The young people who helped with the initiative posed for a silly group photo.
