Woman raped in Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo reassessed its security plan. Currently, there are five security personnel in place with two of them working in the night.

A WOMAN was raped in the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve on Thursday, June 14. According to a post on Facebook, the woman had been brutally attacked and then raped.

The Comaro CHRONICLE asked Jenny Moodley, spokesperson Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo for comment. “Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) has been working closely with the family of the victim, to ensure that the matter is dealt with, with the utmost sensitivity. Similarly, JCPZ reassessed its security plan.

“Currently, there are five security personnel in place with two of them working in the night. To complement the existing by-law signs in place, JCPZ will install two signs appealing to walkers to exercise caution, refrain from carrying valuables, walk with companions and report suspicious activity to JMPD on 011 375 5911 or SAPS on 10111.

“The Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve is a massive area that sprawls over 700 hectares and while JCPZ is committed to making sure the reserve is secure, it is unable to contain the opportunistic criminal elements that target vulnerable users. A private security company, supported by the staff at the reserve, is also complemented with random patrols by JCPZ Park Rangers, JMPD and SAPS.

“The use of four two-way radios have also been issued to the team to speedily report a breach in security to the private security company based at the entrances,” said Moodley.

Residents with suggestions or resources to assist in increasing visible policing in the reserve may email trees@jhbcityparks.com
