BREAKING NEWS: Armed robbery in Van Riebeeck Road foiled by CPS

Two unlicensed firearms were recovered. A third unlicensed firearm was also found on the scene.

CPS SECURITY responded to an armed robbery in Van Riebeeck Road on June 18 just after 11am.

“Our control room received an alarm activation from a business premise. On our arrival, we encountered six armed suspects. The suspects opened fire at our reaction units and Alberton SAPS members who were doing a routine patrol,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director for CPS Security.

The suspects fled on foot after attempting to take the client’s truck which was loaded with oil. Their tactical members were called for back-up and two of the six suspects were arrested after they were found hiding inside the Rand Airport facilities.

Two unlicensed firearms were recovered. A third unlicensed firearm was also found on the scene. The suspects’ getaway car was abandoned on the scene.

FOUND: Two unlicensed firearms were recovered.

SAPS are busy with the investigation.
