Stepping Stone Hospice encourages learners to talk about sadness
Tersia Burger, CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice, told learners they must understand adults try and protect their children from the pain of death.
“IT is okay to be sad” was the general message conveyed by CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice Tersia Burger to a group of senior primary learners at Marist Brothers in Linmeyer on June 8.
“But it is equally important that you then talk to an adult, be that your parent or a teacher, about your feelings,” she told the group.
Marist Brothers invited Tersia to attend the Friday morning assembly where the learners first put on a play centred around “Kindness” before Tersia addressed them on the role of a hospice when a loved one is dying, and to understand that adults sometimes try and protect their children from the sadness around death.
“But it is okay for you to ask questions and to discuss your feelings with your parents and your teachers,” she said.
