The case was postponed to June 19 and transferred to the District Criminal Court for bail applications. All five suspects remain in custody. Nonkanyiso’s almost three-month-old baby will also stay with her mother.

At the first appearance, the court did ask if there is someone to look after the baby, but Nonkanyiso said that there is no one.

The baby has remained with her mother while she is in custody.

The court also mentioned that Manjankhozi, who worked for the Laird family for two years, is a South African citizen. The other four are from Zimbabwe.

Eden was reported missing on May 2. It was reported to police that the domestic helper had taken the child from his Brackendowns home for a walk from which they both never returned.

The suspects demanded a R6-million ransom for the baby’s safe return.
