Debut book launch a success

RONNIE Abrahams had the official launch of his book, Breaking the Silence: Removing all Masks, on May 5 at the Christian Covenant Centre in Eden Park.
Breaking the Silence is Ronnie’s debut book. The book deals with all the aspects of a man’s life, as experienced by Ronnie in his own life. It covers everything from the process of growing up and being a young boy, surviving as a young adult, as well as the joys and hardships that come with marriage and fatherhood.
Ronnie has written the book, opening the door on his personal experiences that weren’t always easy and he intends for people to use the book to learn from his life experiences.
“I am prepared to accept what people think about me afterward,” said Ronnie, an Eden Park resident.
“My hope is that people can draw from my experiences and use it to grow.”
The reality of his words kicked in on the day of the launch when speakers revealed their personal experiences found while reading the book. Pastor Frank Wrench, a veteran of and well known to the community of Eden Park, said the book can be used as a manual to married couples faced with different sorts of challenges.
He also said that young men can learn a lot from the personal experiences and mistakes Ronnie went through while being young. Andy Mashaile, a strategist, speaker, author and an ambassador for Interpol’s Turn Back Crime Campaign, said that this is not only a book but an instrument and tool to be used. Councillor Dino Pietersen, a great friend of the author, said that he can relate to a few of the experiences Ronnie writes about in the book and revealed one of his own masks while delivering his speech.
Ronnie spoke at the launch about how he planned the book launch with nothing but a leap of faith and had not spent a cent yet on getting this book published. He thanked God and motivated the audience by directing his talk to the men present.
“The book I have written speaks about the different types of discipline, love, obedience, faith, childhood, fatherhood, family life and marriages,” said Ronnie.
“We need to rise up, man up and own up to being wrong. We need to be the teachers of our communities. We need to be the type of role models the young can look up to and say I want to be that man one day,” he said.
Breaking the Silence has been nominated for an African Authors Award taking place on July 31.
