Girl may lose leg after hit and run in Abraham Street, Eden Park

The 19-year-old was rushed to hospital with a broken leg and knee.

ABRAHAM Street, notorious for young drivers racing up and down the street, has always been an accident waiting to happen.

A 19-year-old Grade 10 learner at Eden Park Secondary School was run over by a double cab bakkie on Friday evening, April 20 in Abraham Street at about 8pm.

It has allegedly been reported by Leenah Olivier’s family that while she was walking in the street with her friends, a silver-grey double cab bakkie with two people inside drove into Leenah.

A bystander apparently told the family that the passenger shouted at the driver to drive on and not to stop. The bakkie, with a broken side mirror, drove off at a high speed, leaving the injured girl on the sidewalk.

“Leenah was rushed to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus with a broken leg and broken knee. The injury is very bad and we are not sure whether the leg will be amputated or not. We just pray and hope for the best after the operation she has to undergo,” said Leenah’s aunt, Elizabeth Coetzee.

The family opened a case with Eden Park SAPS who is investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact Eden Park SAPS on 011 385 2988. Information will be treated as confidential.
