[GALLERY + VIDEOS]: ‘Justice needs to be served,’ says Danlee
Now all of a sudden there is seven new witnesses.
“Everything can be seen in that video, what else do they need? A life was taken away,” said Danlee Vink.
ITS been a little bit over a year since the passing of the talented artist, Ludi Vink (30).
He was attacked during a fight at Mitzy’s Pub in Randhart on February 21, 2017. He died two days later.
On video footage from the bar, it shows a fight breaking out where it seems that Vink is trying to break up the fight. The footage also shows Daniel Jacobus Olivier (accused) walking across the floor, picking up a pool cue from the table and thrusting the cue up towards Ludi’s face. The cue struck Vink in his right eye. Footage also shows how the cue remains lodged in Vink’s head, where he falls to the floor while Olivier turns around and walks away.
Footage further shows how one of Olivier’s sons comes running towards the victim to yank the pool cue out of his head.
Olivier handed himself over on February 24, 2017.
The RECORD kept track of the court cases and reported at the end of 2017 that the family is preparing for pre-trial. In that article, the court also mentioned it was the last postponement.
On November 22, 2017, Olivier declined a sentence plea bargain of six years imprisonment and chose to go to trial. Olivier asked for five years suspended sentence, which was declined.
After court proceedings on the same day, Olivier hugged Danlee Vink and said that he rather wish to pay her the compensation money for the trial than to go ahead with it. Danlee did not take the offer.
The case was then postponed to February 20, 2018.
Olivier reappeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on April 3 on charges of assault and murder, together with his wife and three sons who are facing charges of assault – all related to Ludi’s death.
Danlee, Vink’s mother, told the RECORD that it is still difficult for them when they have to face the accused and his family at every court proceeding.
“Olivier now has seven witnesses who have only come forward now and the court is also deciding as to whether the 22 hours of CCTV footage can be used as evidence. Everything can be seen in that video, what else do they need? I am really just fed up, it is as if the case is going nowhere and I just want justice to be served. A life was taken away,” said Danlee.
The case has been postponed until June 6.
