Flying Squad corners hijackers

Two suspected hijackers arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad following a high- speed chase in Vaal Road, Brackendowns.

TWO suspected hijackers were arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad following a high-speed chase in Vaal Road in Brackendowns on March 21.

The incident occurred around 5.30pm in Meyerton.

A chase ensued after a Tracker vehicle received an alert. The vehicle chased down the suspects in a hijacked red Ford Fiesta and shooting ensued.

The Johannesburg Flying Squad provided backup and together they managed to corner the vehicle in Vaal Road.

The suspects jumped out and following a short foot chase the suspects were arrested.

The red Ford Fiesta, which was reported hijacked at the Meyerton SAPS, was recovered.

An unlicensed firearm was found in the vehicle and confiscated by the police.

The suspects, both aged 41, will appear in Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, hijacked motor vehicle and attempted murder.

“We thank both the members of Tracker and the Flying Squad for their fast response and ensuring that justice has been done,” says Captain Alvis of the Johannesburg Flying Squad.
