Introducing Edu-Lab, a unique learning facility

It is unlike any private school or learning facility that you may have seen.

A NEW tutoring centre called Edu-Lab is officially open to all children aged six to 13. It is a unique facility in Hennie Alberts Street and those involved at Edu-Lab all have a soft spot for children with learning difficulties.

Edu-Lab is unlike any private school or learning facility that you may have seen. It consists of a home that has been transformed into a tutoring centre with seven “labs” including the art lab, computer lab, experimentation lab, technology and engineering lab, language and reading lab, earth lab and the “outdoor lab” with the jungle gym and play area.

FLEXIBLE SEATING: Here is an example of flexible seating, which has been proven to be beneficial to learners in many ways.

Edu-Lab’s education is based on the Impaq curriculum system (visit www.impaq.co.za for more information). A day at this tutoring centre starts at 8am and ends at 1pm, but extra lessons, homework services and aftercare are offered in the afternoons.

Flexible seating is another big priority at this school, which has been proven to have a major impact on learners’ long-term concentration levels, commitment to learning and physical health.

Victoria Sosa (29), who used to be a teacher in Mulbarton, had the idea for Edu-Lab when she noticed that in many public, private and home schools, a lot of school children are bored because of a lack of engagement, uninteresting learning methods and little to no practical learning.

So, she decided to quit her job as a teacher and start her own tutoring centre with one of her close friends, Vivienne Giles (76). “The idea with this tutoring centre is to keep learning interesting and fun and to engage with the children,” they said in agreement.

COMPUTER LAB: This lab is perfect to stimulate the minds of little millennials.

Victoria and Vivienne both have a passion for kids. Victoria especially cares for children with learning disabilities and Vivienne especially cares for children with disabilities. However, they love all children very much and are very grateful for the opportunity to work together and do what they love.

“We are ready for this,” they said. “We have worked very hard for this place – now it’s time to start. If all goes to plan, we hope to have around six children per lab, with a total of around 36 to 40 children in the whole centre,” Victoria added. Currently, there are no children registered at the centre yet.

LANGUAGE LAB: This is where learners will spend time refining their language skills – a perfect little reading nook.

If your child struggles at school, or if you’re looking for a fun and effective way for your child to learn, feel free to attend the open day for Edu-Lab on March 17. For any queries about Edu-Lab, you can call 082 560 7344 or 082 613 1653 or pop an email to victoria@edu-lab.co.za.
