One arrested for attempted murder after road rage incident

The driver of the car was arrested on the scene by public order policing members.

ONE man has been arrested for attempted murder after the assault of a young man on Swartkoppies Road.

The incident came to RECORD’s attention after a witness to the alleged crime contacted us and we investigated accordingly.

According to the witness the fight broke out at about 6.40am on February 21 on Swartkoppies Road close to Rietvlei. The witness sent a message to the RECORD stating that the young man was hit by another with “those black stick things the police use. His (victim’s) face was covered in blood and the man also started to hit the young man’s motorbike and as he wanted to tell him to stop he attacked him again. It seemed like there was an accident and they completely lost it.”

The RECORD contacted Sergeant Lindi Moloi, spokesperson for the Brackendowns Police Department for comment, here is what she said:

“This morning around 7am, two males were driving along Swartkoppies Road and Hennie Alberts Street, Brackenhurst. One was driving a motor vehicle while the other was driving his motorbike.

“They had an argument that led to the driver of the car assaulting the one on the motorbike with an object on the forehead and also tried to drive over him with his car. The accused also damaged his motorbike while the driver of the motorbike used pepper spray to try and defend himself.”

The driver of the car was arrested on the scene by public order policing members who took him to Brackendowns SAPS while the victim was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The Record will keep an eye on the case and let our readers know of any developments.
