When driving in wet weather motorists must stay alert and take care to follow safety precautions.

  • Check your tyres to see if there’s enough tread on them.
  • Check that your headlights and brake lights are working.
  • Make sure your windscreen wiper blades are in good working order.
  • Buckle up.
  • Switch on your headlights before leaving home.
  • Keep a safe travelling distance between you and the car in front.
  • Don’t speed, and slow down before entering standing water.
  • Avoid areas where there are known adverse conditions.
  • Avoid crossing low-lying bridges.
  • Concentrate on the road, not on anything else, such as your cellphone.
