Two sisters from Alberton excelling in different fields

Carmen and Tyla Nepgen both reached their goals for 2017 and started off 2018 as winners.

TWO sisters from Alberton are both excelling at their individual interests and activities.

Carmen and Tyla Nepgen both reached their goals for 2017 and started off 2018 as winners.

“I’m super proud of them, they both got the first place at nationals in their respective fields,” said Leonie Nepgen, their mother.

Carmen Nepgen, a learner at Alberton High School and Figures Finesse Alberton model got a top score in the 13-15 age group skills division at the National Model of the Year 2017 modelling competition winning R5000 and a sponsored, all-expenses-paid trip to attend the IMTA Convention South Africa 2018 to Bazaruto on the MSC Sinfonia.

Carmen will then be competing in categories like modelling and vocals, and acting, for the grand prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the IMTA Convention in New York.

Tyla Nepgen, a matric learner also at Alberton High, competed in the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) 2017 tournament, competing in disciplines like dressage, equitation, working riding, hunter, in-hand showing, performance, in-hand utility and jumping.

Tyla qualified in five core disciplines for the Ekhuruleni Region and received her regional colours after winning first place in equitation, based on riding skills at the Gauteng finals.

At the SANESA National Competition, Tyla placed first for in-hand utility, receiving a gold medal in large classes of 35-45 riders each, competing against finalists nationwide and also receiving two firsts and a third for team placings. She was awarded Gauteng colours and the SANESA High School 2017 National Multi-Discipline Champion floating trophy from the Arab Horse Society of South Africa.

“At the SANESA Nationals this year 946 schools competed (qualified teams), 3719 participating riders and 4296 horses, so her accomplishments are very impressive,” says Leonie.

These two talented sisters are making Alberton proud, keep it up, girls.
