The joint operation comprising of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit and SAPS Crime Intelligence arrested a couple in Eden Park following a tip-off on February 7.
The couple was arrested around 9am and Cat was found at their residence. Further investigation also revealed that they were running a tavern without a valid liquor licence.
After the tip-off, law enforcement entities swooped down on the house in Studybacker Street where 80 ziplocks of Cat and a large piece of the drug were uncovered with an estimated value of R1 600. Alcohol valued at approximately R3 400 was also seized as the couple had no licence to run the liquor business. Cash amounting to R1 040, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit trade, was also confiscated.
The arrested couple, aged 45 and 48, were detained at Eden Park Police Station on charges of possession and dealing in illicit substances as well as operating a tavern without a liquor licence.
They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
