Boy in hospital after fight breaks out

Our source told the RECORD that the suspect has been receiving death threats since the incident took place.

A BOY is in hospital after an violent exchange between two groups of people at a popular Alberton hangout.

The incident happened on the weekend of January 27, at the Action Sports arena in Meyersdal.

A Facebook user who would like to remain anonymous brought the case to our attention, asking why we had not reported on it and claimed that a 15-year-old boy had been stabbed with a broken bottleneck and sent us details of the alleged suspect.

It is unclear what exactly happened or what led to the alleged stabbing, but according to a source closely involved in the case, there were two groups of adolescents and young adults who became involved in some kind of altercation. This source said there is surveillance footage of the incident.

“The young man who allegedly stabbed the other teen handed himself over to police and two counter-charges have been laid, so there will be more arrests made on both sides,” said Captain Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for the Alberton Police Station.

Our source told the RECORD that the suspect has been receiving death threats since the incident took place.

The RECORD has attempted to make contact with the suspect as well as the victim’s family (as he is a minor), but have failed thus far.

We have also contacted the owner of Action Sports Meyersdal. Here is what he had to say: “Firstly, there was no stabbing. Yes, there was an incident where a glass was involved in a fight, with two members of the public that are non-members, but no evidence of a stabbing. I feel that to report on an incident is not fair to the people involved until the courts have decided on an outcome. Please at this stage refrain from any false accusations.”

RECORD will keep an eye on the case and keep our readers updated on any developments.
