Hijacked car recovered in Packard Street

The suspect will appear in the Palmridge Magistrate's Court as well as the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.

THE Eden Park SAPS received a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle parked on a property in Packard Street on January 12.

They acted and upon their arrival at 6.30pm they found a white Mercedes Benz parked behind the house. According to Captain Vusi Mhlophe, the vehicle was hijacked in Booysens, Johannesburg in October 2017 and could not be traced.

“This could be a syndicate operation. They had probably jammed the tracking device because the vehicle could not be tracked for months. We are thankful for the tip-off.

“We arrested a suspect who appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on January 5 on two counts – one for car hijacking and one for possession of stolen property,” Mhlophe said.

Investigating officer Constable Zwane said the suspect is being charged by both Eden Park and Booysens SAPS.

“The suspect will appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court first and then in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on the first case of hi-jacking opened at Booysens SAPS in October 2017,” he said.
