Hijacked truck recovered on the R59

None of the cargo the truck was carrying at the time of the hijacking was on board.

ON Thursday night, January 4, members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Public Order Policing Task Team received GPS coordinates of a hijacked truck from a vehicle tracking company.

The GPS coordinates pointed to the truck being on the R59 freeway. The officers responded immediately and managed to recover the hijacked truck on the R59 by the Kliprivier exit.

According to EMPD spokesperson, chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, the truck had been hijacked in the Zonkizizwe area in December.

None of the cargo the truck was carrying at the time of the hijacking was on board, and the truck was booked in at the Kliprivier South African Police Service pound facility.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for possession of the hijacked vehicle and detained at Kliprivier Police Station.
