Ouma Lulu will be missed

Ouma Lulu would have celebrated her 99th birthday on Christmas Day.

MARTHA Khan, better known as Ouma Lulu, passed away on her husband’s birthday, November 12.

She will be sadly missed by the community, her neighbours in Hudson Street and the congregation of the New Apostolic Church where she never missed a Sunday service.

Born in Witbank on December 25, 1918, Ouma Lulu moved to Germiston as a young woman and met the love of her life, Ahmed Khan. The two married in 1950 and lived happily together for 67 years until her passing.

Ouma Lulu would have celebrated her 99th birthday on Christmas Day. Her family and friends were already looking forward to her 100th birthday in 2018.

On September 25, Ouma Lulu and Ahmed attended Eden Park’s first annual Marriage Enrichment Indaba. Of the 123 couples in attendance at the local hall, Lulu and Ahmed were the oldest and longest married couple.

When they moved into Eden Park in 1978, Ouma Lulu turned her house into a day-care centre. Working couples left their children in her care, and many of them gave testimony at her memorial service.

Rest in peace, Ouma Lulu – you will be missed by family and friends.
