Rain caused accident, leaves girl (11) severely injured

“We hope she heals properly, or else another operation will have to follow."

A girl was left severely injured when an accident occurred at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Ring Road in Alberton North on November 10. It is likely that the accident would not have happened if it had not been raining.

As a bakkie turned at this corner it lost control and slid on the wet road, colliding with a scooter that transported a man and his daughter toward one of the main roads in Alberton.

Southcrest residents Martin and Abbegale Henery (a Laerskool President Steyn learner) were both injured but Abbegale will need at least eight weeks to recover from her clean-broken thighbone, punctured leg and loss of skin on her lower right leg – if her recovery goes according to plan. Martin was lucky to leave the accident with only a cracked right hand and a few bruises and cuts.

Right after the accident happened, three people at the scene contacted an ambulance, but no-one arrived. Luckily someone then contacted the Fox Security Medical Unit who arrived within minutes and assisted Abbegale immediately.

CLEAN BREAK: Abbegale’s x-ray reveals a terrifying injury to her right thighbone.

She was transported to Natalspruit Hospital.

“The hospital did not seem interested to help her and there was no doctor,” said her father, Martin (41). “She lost a lot of blood, too.”

She was then transported to another hospital, this time Sunshine Hospital in Benoni.

“They helped her and she was given two units of blood,” said Martin.

Abbegale underwent an operation on November 14 and everything went well.

GET WELL SOON: Abbegale rests in the hospital bed after receiving treatment.

“We hope she heals properly or else another operation will have to follow,” he added.

Martin will keep the RECORD updated on any additional progress.

Now that they’ve lost their only means of transport, Martin has to walk to work and has problems travelling to and fro Sunshine Hospital to visit and watch over his daughter.

If you are able to offer help to the Henery family in this regard, please contact Martin on 066 205 2591.

On behalf of the community, the RECORD wishes Abbegale and Martin a speedy recovery and prosperity.
