Ekurhuleni welcomes proposals for gated public roads

It has also been noted that some roads within in the city are illegally closed.

EKURHULENI residents and members of the business fraternity can submit proposals for the establishment of safe gated communities without infringing on people’s freedom of movement.

Community members can submit their proposals from October 28 until November 25 as part of the city’s response to the influx of requests to restrict access to public roads.

It has also been noted that some roads within in the city are illegally closed and use extreme measures that also deny entry to emergency services and the police.

Proposals from all stakeholders should consider:

  • Methods that can be implemented without infringing one’s right to freedom of movement but equally ensuring the safety and security of residents.
  • Different ways to promote mobility, integration, social inclusiveness and township functionality.
  • Reduce unnecessary long travelling distances caused by road closures.

Proposals and presentations should be done in writing, and emailed to Dora.Mogale@ekurhuleni.gov.za and mkncivil@polka.co.za or hand delivered to the City Planning Department, at PO Box 13, Kempton Park, 1620 and Customer Care Areas across Ekurhuleni.
