IT sure was a gathering of a different kind where four-legged and even feathered friends were the centre of attention.
On October 7 an event took place at the St. Therese Catholic Church where Father Kevin Bugler prayed for and blessed many pets of Alberton’s community members.
People gathered outside behind the church with their animals which seemed to be mostly dogs of all sorts. There were chairs, music and biscuits for the humans to enjoy. As for the pets, there were treats, pet’s mince, fresh water and lots of other tails to sniffle. There was also a dog training display presented by Julie Haddon from Haddon Dog Training Club.
Before Father Bugler blessed the pets and their owners with holy water, he would say to the animal: “May you be blessed in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. May you and your owner enjoy life together and find joy with the God who created you.” This was a special moment between pets and their owners.
“Father Kevin loves animals very much,” said Shelagh Wiles from the church’s parish council. “We have a donation box and all proceeds go directly towards the Animal Anti-Cruelty League.”
After each pet got blessed, owners stayed for a little while, enjoyed some snacks and let their fur children enjoy some outdoor freedom and get to know each other. It was an adorable occasion that everyone, fluffy or not, enjoyed.
