‘Hobos’ in action for Stepping Stone Hospice

"It was an amazing team effort that brought people together from all over our community."

THE rainy weather certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm at the Meyersdal Action Sports Arena on October 7 as teams gathered to play volleyball and cricket in “hobo gear” while members of the community browsed the stalls at the indoor market, all in aid of Stepping Stone Hospice.

The event was a collaboration between Stepping Stone and the Meyersdal Action Sports Arena with manager AW Claassens spearheading the event, together with Stepping Stone’s fund-raising manager, Marietjie Tame.

“As part of our ongoing fund-raising efforts we joined forces with the Meyersdal Action Sports Arena to host a ‘Hobos’ in Action day combined with an under-roof market selling unique arts, crafts and good food,” explained Marietjie.

Whilst teams competed in the action cricket and volleyball arenas, the fun continued at the market and in the kiddies’ area, complete with jumping castles and more.

“Not only did AW go out of his way to help us with the planning and implementing of this event, he’s also riding for Stepping Stone Hospice in this year’s Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge for the second time,” said Marietjie. “We had 48 stallholders on the day and our volunteers were also out in full force, working hard to make the day a success. All in all, it was an amazing team effort that brought people from all over our community together. Awareness was created and for that we are eternally grateful!”
