The City of Ekurhuleni on water restrictions

The public should still refrain from all irrigation activities.

RESIDENTS of Alberton and the greater Ekurhuleni region have been somewhat confused about whether or not there are currently any water restrictions.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, there are currently no water restrictions but they are still appealing to members of the public to refrain from all irrigation activities, especially between the hours of 7am and 5pm.

“Although there is no severe enforcement of the by-laws on water restrictions by fining those who contravene them at this stage, it would be in the best interest of all consumers to abide by it,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni.

“When Council officially lifted the water restrictions in March 2017, the condition that irrigation activities between those hours be prohibited, remained. This is a decision that was taken by the City of Ekurhuleni and permitted by the water services by-laws,” he added.
