VIDEO: Singer from Alberton leaves Idols

Britney is now focusing on her studies and is writing exams, but this hasn't stopped her from organising a charity event to raise funds for children's homes.

BRITNEY Meistre (17), a singer from Alberton taking part in this year’s Idols singing competition has been sent home.

During the elimination process for the last round, eight girls and eight boys were selected to go through to the top 16 from the 29 remaining contestants and sadly Britney was not one of them.

“Of course I’m disappointed, but I am satisfied with how far I’ve gotten and it’s been amazing to get so much support. People actually stop me in the street and at shops when they recognise me. It’s been an amazing experience and I wouldn’t change it for anything” said Britney.

Britney recalls a funny moment when they got given a “singer’s survival pack” that included honey, throat lozenges and herbal tea. “It was hilarious. The one day, Unathi and I had a chat at breakfast and she told me she thinks I’m very talented. That meant so much to me,” she said

“I did a talent show with the church earlier this year when I met this adorable little boy from a home, known as ‘Big Boy’ and he really touched my heart. Now I want to help support these homes full of children who don’t have the joy of having parents like I do,” she said.

Britney, who loves her ballads, is working on finishing three songs she has written and recently finished a music course. “It really helps me with my writing, learning to read music, play the piano as accompaniment and just understanding everything better, singing in specific keys, etc,” Britney added.

She is planning to study business as she believes education is important, but her biggest love is music and she plans on pursuing this overwhelming passion she has for it.

On advice for any aspiring musicians out there, Britney said: “Never expect too much. Go out there and do your best. Just enjoy the experience,” she said.
