Brackenhurst Primary donates to hospice

"We are incredibly thankful that Brackenhurst Primary gave us this wonderful donation!"

At noon on September 19, Stepping Stone Hospice was elated to receive a big cheque from Brackenhurst Primary School who raised the funds over the past year.

This is the school’s second consecutive year of raising and donating money to a community charity or cause. Teacher Dorothy Buitendag said: “We chose Stepping Stone this year because I know they make a big difference in the lives of hurt people. I had breast cancer two years ago, therefore I realise how needed Stepping Stone is in the community.”

To raise the money, the school held a ladies’ tea on September 2. All in all, they were able to raise R55 280 for Stepping Stone.

Tersia Burger, Hospice’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Brackenhurst Primary for this wonderful donation! We really need it – more than 70 per cent of our patients cannot make any contribution towards the care we provide for them. We appreciate this so much.”

Hospice thanked a few of the school staff members, who stayed after the cheque had been handed over, with a cup of tea and biscuits. Everyone got to know each other and the morning ended with a few new friendships having been made.

You can also help Stepping Stone Hospice by donating any usable second hand items such as clothes, shoes, toys, bedding, furniture, books, bags, ornaments or anything else that could be sold in the Charity Shop across from the Springbok Pharmacy in Alberton Mall.
