THE South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) celebrated National Physiotherapy Back Week (September 4 to 8) this year in a novel way.
In an effort to get their names down in the Guinness Book of Records, a group of physiotherapists and others gathered to do lunges for one minute non-stop.
The challenge was to get the biggest group together to do lunges for one minute over lunch. The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness of the barriers facing those people who would like to be active and exercise.
World Physical Therapy (Physiotherapy) Day is celebrated annually on September 8, with the general theme of ‘Movement for Health’.
This year, the suggested message is ‘Physical activity for life’, highlighting the important role that physiotherapists play in healthy ageing.
To further promote the theme of ‘Movement for Health’, the SASP’s private sector group, Physio Focus, encouraged people to help break the record and be mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records by participating in the ‘Lunges for Lunch’ campaign that took place at 12 noon on Friday, September 8.
After taking part in the challenge, they took to the streets to support the campaigns of ‘Take Back the Streets’ and ‘Movement for Health’.
