Cemetery without water since June

Workers claim that there has been no water at Eden Park Cemetery for almost three months.

MANY residents from Eden Park and Thokoza are disappointed and frustrated when they visit the local cemetery to pay respects to their loved ones who had passed away.

The taps are dry and there has been no water since June.

Families reported that whenever they had to go to the cemetery, they have to carry a bucket of water from home because they don’t have the necessary tools to open the fire hydrant outside the cemetery.

According to the workers, who wish to remain anonymous, the water had been off since June. They said they have been fetching water from an outside fire hydrant.

They reported, fearfully, that visiting families demand water from them and complain about the toilets without water.

“When contractors arrive here to erect tombstones, they need water and then we have to run around supplying them with water from the hydrant. Since June we have been reporting this water problem and we have handed in a work order and still, nothing is done. We are now in our third month of working without water,” said one worker.

The RECORD consulted the senior clerk of the EMM rates offices, Tebogo Seemela, who said he would follow-up on the matter. “I have contacted the Water Department and the EMM Maintenance Department and both have no record concerning the matter,” said Seemela.

The RECORD is awaiting comment from EMM.
