The real meaning of Madiba for pensioners

"It feels so good to do something during the 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela," said Joey.

“I AM happy and excited about what these young men are doing for me. I thank the companies they represent and say thank you to the Lord for sending them here!”

A tearful Rachel Lena Olifant (66) carried on to say: “A big thank you to the late Madiba whose message was always about love, peace and forgiving, and a big thank you also to those who still follow it by doing good deeds to others in his name.”

Rachel celebrated her birthday on Sunday, July 16 and got her birthday surprise on July 18.

Two men, Yoey Nkabinde, CLO of F&J Electrical and Douglas Sontie, CLO of ECDC Gast initiated the idea of doing a good deed for someone in the community and they identified Rachel’s house on Madiba Day.

The two men were joined by Anton Matsenjwe of Harrogate who is a sub-contractor at the EMM Early Childhood Development site, David Quinn CDW Gauteng Province and two local businesses.

“We are cleaning aunt Rachel’s property, painting the house inside and outside, and building her a much needed stoep. We thank Shane’s Butchery for supplying the workers with food and for supplying aunt Rachel with food parcels. We also thank James of Pordo Sol Cafe for the soft drinks he supplied to our workers.

“It feels so good to do something during the 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela,” said Joey.

“I am happy and thankful. I am sure I am going to sleep like a baby tonight,” said an overjoyed Rachel.
