Robbers kill man in his bedroom

"The man was brutally killed by someone cruel and without a sense of humanity." - Captain Vusi Mhlophe.

A YOUNG married man (39) with two minor children aged 10 and 12, was killed in his bedroom on Saturday evening, July 15, at 8pm by two armed men.

Captain Vusi Mhlophe of Eden Park SAPS reported that he was summoned to a murder scene in Vauxhall Street and on arrival found the most horrible and inhumane scene.

“I found the deceased, Marshall Mofet, in a big pool of blood with a big and deep slash to his throat. I have never seen a person killed in this manner. This was a horrifying and traumatising scene for anyone to witness. The man was brutally killed by someone cruel and without a sense of humanity,” he said.

Another man on scene, who wishes not to be named said: “Ubuntu, the Zulu word for humanity, has totally lost its meaning in today’s life. One human kills another as if the other is an animal – that is what is happening,”

It is reported that the unknown suspects entered the house at about 7pm armed with firearms. The husband and wife, their two children and a boarder were tied with shoelaces and the husband was dragged to the bedroom for interrogation.

“I could hear how the criminals were choking Marshall and repeatedly asking whether he was Marshall Jackson. He kept on saying he was not that person but they kept on asking him and punching him.

“While one robber was throwing goods out of all the wardrobes, the other went to the kitchen and I heard him open the cutlery drawer and return to the main bedroom where Marshall was tied up. I hear a strange noise and then suddenly everything went silent. They then took the plasma television, laptop, decoder and DVD recorder and loaded goods into Marshall’s bakkie and drove away,” said the traumatised boarder who does not want to be named.

According to the family, after everything was quiet and they assumed that the robbers were gone, they managed to untie each other and went into the main bedroom where they found the father of the house in a pool of blood. He was not breathing anymore.

Mhlophe said the husband was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and the stolen Ford Ranger bakkie was recovered in Phola Park.

Marshall Brian Mofet was born on September 29, 1978 and was employed by Transnet. He was a staunch member of the United Reformed Church (URC / VGK) and a member of the Christian Men’s Ministry (CMM) at the URC Church. He will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 22 at Kromvlei Cemetery.

A case of house robbery and murder is being investigated.
