A VIBRANT atmosphere was in evidence at 83 Production Park, Unit 3, where Meals on Wheels Community Services SA (MOWCS SA), together with five teams of corporate volunteers, cooked about 3 000 hot meals for the needy on June 7.

The meals were then transported to Makause informal settlement in Primrose, Germiston. Companies which took part in the cook-off besides MOWCS SA were: Discovery, Tsogo Sun, Resource Communications, Container World and Industrial Commodity Holdings.
There were six chefs for each team and their job was to oversee the teams preparing the food and to make sure that everything went well. Sibusiso Ntshingila, a self-employed chef, was the head chef for the day.
MOWCS SA is a fully fledged and recognised non-profit organisation that believes hunger is the extreme materialisation of poverty and human deprivation. They are currently serving two million meals a month to more than 12 million hungry South Africans.
They also continue to develop new ventures, including their ‘Caregiver Initiative’ that provides help wherever it is needed. Other exciting ventures include their corporate social investment partnerships and programmes.

This has boosted their donor base specifically in terms of perishables and non-perishables. This programme allows their corporate investors to make a difference in the lives of the community they serve and to assist MOWC SA in reaching its vision of a hunger-free South Africa.
