Robber stripped and beaten by Eden Park community

When the community caught up with the suspect, they stripped him naked and gave him a beating

A PAKISTANI foreign national family was attacked by three robbers in Palmridge on June 5.

According to police reports, the suspects kicked open the door of the the family home and started demanding money and cell phones from the two brothers who were in the house. One brother started to scream and one of the two robbers, armed with a firearm, fired a shot into the ceiling which alerted other family members who were in the shop on the same premises.

The three armed men fled the scene with a box of handbags but dropped it as community members started chasing after them. While running from the pursuing residents, the suspects kept on shooting haphazardly.

One robber was apprehended by the crowd and given the hiding of a lifetime – the community stripped him naked and everyone took out his or her anger on him.

The owner of the house positively identified the man as one of the robbers and summoned the police.

The naked and beaten man was arrested and taken to Eden Park SAPS where he was offered a blanket before being taken to hospital for treatment.

According to captain Vusi Mhlophe, a case of armed robbery was opened against the man.

Luck was not on the three robbers’ side, as the other two armed men were also arrested by Katlehong SAPS on their way from Palmridge.

Captain Emmanuel Jele of the Eden Park Criminal Investigating Department (CID) said he was contacted by KatlehongSAPS concerning two men with unlicensed firearms that had been arrested between Palmridge and Katlehong.

“It was then discovered that these were the two accomplices of the naked robber. So all three robbers are now arrested,” said Jele.
