The Charity Shop is becoming a shoppers haven

The store will have its grand opening on June 1, so be there first to have your pick of the beautiful items up for sale.

THE RECORD stopped by Stepping Stone Hospice’s soon-to-open The Charity Shop to give a helping hand in re-painting the walls and old furniture.

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: The Charity Shop is slowly but surely being transformed into a shop where you will want to browse and buy those treasured items. Don’t forget the grand opening on June 1.

The empty shop across from Springbok Pharmacy in Alberton Mall is being transformed into a colourful charity shop for Stepping Stone Hospice. Here you will find all kinds of interesting used items – from dining room sets and antique armoires to crocheted lampshades, whittled figurines and old books; a bit of everything! As a matter of fact, this shop is set to become Alberton’s own treasure trove.

The RECORD staff have formed a partnership with Stepping Stone Hospice and decided to show support by getting into some old clothes, grabbing paintbrushes and painting the white walls and old furniture. What were once cold white walls have now been transformed by shades of warm brown and blue that will make any customer feel at home. And slowly but surely things are coming together to get everything ready for the opening.

SHELVING SPONSORS: The hospice’s The Charity Shop depot manager, Frank Weldon and Dietmar Krupke from KK Shelving, who kindly sponsored shelving and clothing rails for The Charity Shop, next to Brenda Peach.

RECORD journalists also tried their hands at painting a haggard-looking desk and bookshelf which will be transformed into furniture fit for an auction – all of course courtesy of Brenda van der Molen, owner of You Inspire Me Arts and Crafts Boutique. Brenda is not only sponsoring the paint, but also gave up many hours to assist with the painting of walls and turning old furniture into something new.

COMING TO LIFE: New colours on the previously blank white walls are transforming the look of the shop to welcome shoppers as from June 1.

While the painting was underway, Dietmar Krupke from KK Shelving popped into the shop and confirmed that they will be donating shelving and clothing rails.To all our residents and business people out there who have already sponsored goods, and given time and money – thank you for your support for Stepping Stone Hospice’s charity shop.

BRINGING THE GOODS: The Charity Shop is being stocked with plenty of goodies before its opening.
