EDEN Park Secondary School has proudly produced two chess champions, who are from a team that has won several chess competitions.

Devon Dortley (Grade 12) has been the chess team captain for 2016 and 2017. He was part of the u-18 Section C team of Ekurhuleni East that attained first place at the South African Junior Chess Championships in 2016 and winner of the Individual Board Prize at the same competition.

The talented young man also won a gold medal at the Arnold Classic Africa Chess Tournament in the u-16 and u-18 age groups.

Orapeleng Kenosi (Grade 12) was the first Eden Park Secondary chess captain to lead his team to victory in 2014 /2015.

He attained first position in the district finals and first position at the provincial finals in 2016, going on to win at both the Ekurhuleni Section B chess tournament as well as the Section A chess trials, where he beat one of the highest ranked players in Gauteng.

“We are very proud of these two chess players. They are in Grade 12 so they will be gone next year, but we are still proud that they are coaching players. For the past three years, they have been the greatest – and the pride of the school,” said the principal Liza Naudé.
