Eden Park Primary SGB responds to protest actions

The allegations made i.e. corrupt members, financial mismanagement is not taken lightly - SGB: Eden Park Primary

FOLLOWING last week’s front page story (‘Irate parents hand over list of demands to Lesufi’, RECORD of April 27) the RECORD received the following comment from the SGB of Eden Park Primary:

“It is proven at times that those with corrupt interest in the community tend to head up the masses to participate in misleading events.

“The allegations made, i.e. corrupt members and financial mismanagement, is not taken lightly. The school’s books are audited yearly by a registered auditing firm and an investigation as per request by aggrieved members was also done by the Gauteng Department of Education, the unit known as the ‘SIU’ and there were no alarm bells of fraudulent activities relating to the school’s finances.

“They (the concerned parents) keep providing false information to the public to advance their deceptive course, whatever it may be.

“It was explained by Mr Hamilton Jacobs, SGB chairperson at Eden Park Primary, that the SGB (Eden Park Primary) is in the process of legal consultation on allegations made in public by the organisers of the march and will pursue this matter in court. This is not a threat.”

The SGB’s reply also included an observation and some questions to the protesting parents. These are listed below:

Our observation

“The ultimate objective of these marches is based on the principal posts at both schools and nothing more. The organisers are unionists and we believe that they want to corrupt our schools with union ideologies. Providing false information to the public to advance their deceptive course is unacceptable. Could there possibly be, behind the scenes, applicants who were unsuccessful in the principals and deputy principals posts at the two schools that are currently under attack? The statements put in press releases are inaccurate and lack integrity.

“Some participants in this protest action are previous employees of the feeding schemes of the schools whose contracts had ended. We are not sure what their anger is all about. Do they want a second term?

“Why do they need special audiences from the Department of Education (DOE) to showcase their so-called concerns, when they walk out of meetings that deal with all their grievances?”

A few questions arise for those on the front line of these marches:

1. Those who claim leadership in this so-called misleading improved education-based marches, what have they got to show to deserve a following?

2. We observed that among those involved in the march were parents who do not have children in the our school. Who and what do they truly represent?

3. Do they have a profile or portfolio of evidence in leading the people of Eden Park?

4. How much volunteering do they do to convince us that they are truthful in their course?

5. Is this really the concern of the majority of the parents when less than 20 parents joined the march?
